Yogurt War is declared between Armenia and Georgia
[Matsun](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matzoon) is a fermented milk product of Armenian origin, distributed in Armenia and Georgia, reads Wikipedia. The word originates from the Armenian "matz" (sour, glue). The etymology is provided by Grigor Magistros, in his Definition of grammar (11th century).
Matsoni is the Georgian version. Sounds similar.
Georgia had registered matsoni as a Georgian geographical indicator (GI), thus preventing Armenian matsun producers from exporting matsun-labeled products via Georgia to Russia. The Armenian manufacturers are forced to use alternative words such as "yogurt".
It's similar to how France safeguards "cognac" and "champagne".
Economy Ministry: Back in 2011 Armenia sent an objection to EU and Georgian authorities, citing the linguistic similarities between matsun and matsoni. The objection was rejected. [The enforcement of the law began recently.]
We prepared legal amendments to allow a state agricultural agency to register GIs under its name, as opposed to current rules under which only manufacturers register GIs.
This will allow us to register matsun as an Armenian GI, but we will also need to reach an agreement with Georgia to mutually recognize our GIs before the product can be exported as matsun.
This topic was discussed during a recent government meeting. Relevant working groups will discuss the terms of the GI agreement. //
The issue began in 2021 when Marianna manufacturer's product was denied entry to Georgia. The Ministry negotiated for that batch to proceed while the manufacturer agreed to change the product label until the governments sign the GI agreement.

Statue Wars between Armenia and United Kingdom
Your favorite Education Minister Armen Ashotyan insisted in 2012 for the UK to return the remnants of a statue dedicated to Armenian goddess Anahit. He wanted to keep the topic alive to achieve results but everyone forgot about it soon after.
Especially in recent years, attempts to bring cultural heritage home have intensified around the world. Africa wants Europe to return its artifacts.
China says there are 1.6 million stolen Chinese artifacts around the world.

Yerevan will buy more electric trolleybuses and hire hundreds of street cleaners
Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan: We need more electric transport. 10 new trolleybuses will be purchased. An auction will be held soon.

... buses
Last week the capital's bus operator Yerevan Autobus CJSC operated 1,380 vehicles in circulation. JongTong buses will serve new routes next week. The No. 28 bus will expand to connect to Barekamutyun metro station. The council discussed reducing wait times.
... road gates are preventing ambulance vehicles from entering backyards
Mayor: Is it true that electric road gates prevent emergency crews from entering backyards?
Official: Yes. There have been such instances but locals help open the gates.
Mayor: Have you considered implementing a universal system to allow emergency crews to remotely open the gate?
Official: Yes. A commission will be formed to study it.
Mayor: A "commission" means it'll never happen. I want district heads to create the list of gates and give it to the transport department. The solution is a simple universal microchip on a gate.
... it turns out emergency crews cannot see your phone number after a missed call
Mayor: If someone calls you and your lines are busy, can you see later which number had dialed you?
Emergency official: No, not always. [Jesus Christ how have Armenians managed to survive this long?]
Mayor: We need to fix that so you can call them back later. What system are you using?
Another official: Yerevan's 14 hotlines use Oktell unified call management system. We bought it 8 years ago. It does show the number after a missed call. We'll help the medical department with the missed call identification.
... opposition official praises the municipality's work under the new Yerevan mayor
LUYS councilman Khazhakyan: It's unfortunate that not one procedural session had been broadcasted without editing until now. You would see the difference between "bardak" and well-organized work.

VIDEO: 8 Armenian POWs returned home on Monday
Macon, EU leadership, Pashinyan, and Aliyev [held a virtual meeting last week to discuss humanitarian issues](https://168.am/2021/12/16/1624603.html). It led to the repatriation of 8 more Armenian POWs.
4 of them are volunteers from Gyumri who were captured immediately after the 2020 ceasefire near Hin Tagher and Khtsaberd villages of Artsakh.
Armenia and Azerbaijan should help each other to find bodies of people who went missing during the first Karabakh war, said the Armenian government, denying an Azeri media report that had earlier presented the search effort as a "unilateral" move by Armenia.
Macron thanked the French diplomats and military officials who contributed to the efforts. EU's Charles Michel welcomed the repatriation and said the EU supports stability and prosperity in the region.
In other news, the EU has offered a €2b assistance program to Azerbaijan, similar to the one offered to Armenia last year.

TLDR: interview with UK ambassador John Gallagher:
The UK doesn't view the Karabakh conflict as resolved without a comprehensive peace agreement based on OSCE principles. We welcome the efforts to normalize AM-TR relations.
We're working with the Armenian government to finalize the AM-UK comprehensive cooperation agreement (CEPA). We can do much better than the $87 million trade.
Armenia is well known for its burgeoning IT sector, and we have seen positive signals in recent months of interest by companies in expanding their operations.
Another growth area is renewable energy. The UK is currently supporting a collaboration with EBRD and the Business Support Office to identify opportunities to integrate green growth principles into business activities in Armenia.
UK was one of the first countries to recognize Armenia's independence and respond to the 1988 quake. Margaret Thatcher visited Gyumri in 1990 to open the Lord Byron school. There are strong cultural and business ties.
There will be events to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations: The Queen's b-day party in summer, the Scotland soccer team's visit in June, senior diplomatic visits.

ARF marked its 131st anniversary
Dashnaks gathered in Yerevan to discuss their past, presence, and future. A mini-documentary film was presented about their history.
ARF Ishkhan Saghatelyan: Founded in 1890, ARF was destined to play a crucial role in Armenian history. ARF's history is impossible to separate from Armenia's history. It remained faithful to its mission throughout history.
We are a party with a vision for the future. In 1999-2009 and 2016-2018 we were part of the government. We not only know how to fight well, but also how to build. It's time to get down to business.
ARF Hakob Ter-Khachatryan: We aren't against establishing relations with Turkey, but it should be done without preconditions. We do see preconditions by Turkey today.

government rejects ARF's bill that would sharply raise the minimum wage
The government raised the minimum wage from 55k to 68k in 2020. The plan is to gradually raise it to 85k by 2026.
The HD alliance, on the other hand, proposed a sharp hike to 100k, and a gradual hike to 150k, citing inflation and higher costs.
ARF MP Aghvan Vardanyan: The consumer basket in 2020 was worth 73k. We need to defeat poverty. Since in December the average salary was 255k, the minimum - which should be 40% - has to be 102k. If we take into account the annual average, the minimum should be 83k.
Ministry: The bill doesn't present a macroeconomic analysis. This raise would place a burden on businesses and increase unemployment. What would be the impact on businesses, the product prices, their competitiveness, and exports? //
The ARF MP believes the benefits will outweigh the negatives. The Parliamentary committee rejected the bill.

stats: number of people who left and entered Armenia
2011: -43.8k
2016: -48.1k
2017: -26.9k
2018: +15.3k
2019: +10.5k
2020: +12.1k
2021: -43.8k
As for Armenian citizens only, the year 2020 was abnormal and saw a whopping +42.8k border crossings, the only positive number in the decade. It was possibly due to Covid travel restrictions. The next year, however, saw a -73.6k crossings, also the highest in the decade. If we take the average for 2020/2021, it was -30.8k, compared to -36k to -49k before 2017.
The aforementioned numbers do not show how many people emigrated out of Armenia. For details on that, [read this article](https://www.civilnet.am/news/646768/արտագաղթի-թվերի-նրբությունը/).
The more accurate emigration stats are reflected in Միգրացիայի մնացորդ (migration balance), which takes into account people who removed their names from the residency database, and also tools to address those who permanently leave without removing their names from the OVIR database.
This is what that migration balance shows as of writing the article:
1991: +4.4k
1992-1994: hundreds of thousands leave during war
2000-2008: -24.2k per year in average
2009-2017: -26.1k per year in average
2018: -18.2k
2019: -15.4k
2020: +3.4k (largely because of Covid)

What the hell is the Hepatitis C virus, and how do you kill the nasty bastard?
HCV is a virus that spreads through contaminated blood and causes liver damage. Treatment methods have improved in recent years. 58 million people have lifelong HCV.
4% of Armenians had HCV as of 2018.
Healthcare Ministry: Most chronic patients have no symptoms, so the HCV is discovered during a routine medical checkup. Long-term HCV can damage the liver and cause cancer.
Besides liver damage, it can lead to a host of other health problems including diabetes, depression, kidney disease, etc.
In 2016 the WHO advised new treatment schemes involving direct-acting antiviral drugs (DAA). They shorten the treatment period and significantly improve the outcome. The goal is to kill the virus. 12-24 weeks after the DAA treatment, the patient gives a PCR test.
In Armenia, a program to distribute free HCV medication launched in 2020. //

Musk Factor: Armenian TV series created a vision of the future security technology and sold it as NFT
>Musk Factor is a 12-episodes sci-fi comedy series revolving around an Armenian Engineer who is sent to Mars. Interestingly, the engineer’s son, Adam, misses his father a lot, so he decides to create a digital clone of him. The story continues where Adam uses the same technology to create digital human clones.
The team presented a concept of future security technology called GAIT:
>It is a well-known fact that every person living on the planet has a unique gait, and each individual’s walking step distance is different. The NFT shows how it is possible to identify criminals by studying and analyzing human gait data
They turned GAIT [which isn't a new idea] into an NFT and sold it to a real-time physical threat detection company called Scylla. The latter wrote:
>The NFT of a futuristic security system for the Metaverse that was created by Musk Factor team immediately caught our attention [...] Nowadays, facial and behavior recognition systems are widely used, but GAIT can become the next technology for ensuring security

Kim vs Kanye feud escalates to a new level, accusations of putting a hit 🍿
News requested by readers to track Kanye's gradual downfall and OJification.
Things have gotten worse after Kim began dating young boy Pete, blocked Kanye from attending their daughter's b-day party, and allowed their 8-year-old daughter to wear lipstick on TikTok.
At one point it got so bad that even Candace Owens weighed in: "Kim is wrong on this one. The psychological effects of social media on young girls is real and documented. It’s actually Kanye that is trying to protect his daughter"
Users have called Candace's tweet a bad omen citing /r/HermanCainAward in which someone eventually dies every time Candace Owens writes something.
Kanye West continued to rant on Sunday, this time accusing Kim of saying he put a "hit" out on her. He accused the Kardashian family of "playing with black men's lives".
>NOW IM BEING ACCUSED OF PUTTING A HIT ON HER THESE IDEAS CAN ACTUALLY GET SOMEONE LOCKED UP THEY PLAY LIKE THAT WITH BLACK MENS LIVES WEATHER ITS GETTING THEM FREE OR GETTING THEM LOCKED UP IM NOT PLAYING ABOUT MY BLACK CHILDREN ANYMORE.
>I beg to go to my daughter's party and I'm accused of being on drugs, then I go play with my son and I take my Akira graphic novels and I'm accused of stealing. Now I'm being accused of putting a hit on her
Kim responded:
>Kanye's constant attacks on me in interviews and on social media is actually more hurtful than any TikTok [the 8-year-old daughter] might create
Meanwhile, Kris Jenner is trying to act as a peacemaker. She remains the only Kardashian who is on good terms with Kanye. Other family members reportedly told Kanye to "take medication".
