Yerevan's sole garbage collector Sanitek gave a press conference. They denied the rumors that part of company's car fleet was owned by former mayor HHK Taron Margaryan and that he is sabotaging the cleanup operations.

They said the increasing number of tourists, bad quality products, ever-expanding residential areas and new streets, are some of the reasons the garbage isn't being cleaned fully on time. Sanitek says they offered a new contract to Yerevan city to raise the payment to Sanitek so they can do more, and meanwhile do temporary steps to ease the garbage situation.

Yerevan purchased its own garbage trucks and offered to lease some of them to Sanitek, which the company agreed to do. Sanitek says the city then changed its mind, citing legal reasons, and demanded Sanitek to do its part of the current lease and buy its own trucks instead.

Sanitek says they agreed to buy new trucks under 3 conditions: city will not cancel the contract with Sanitek, city provides a financial assistance to Sanitek, city must completely renovate Nubarashen landfill so Sanitek's trucks don't break down often. The city did not respond positively to the demands.

After this, city organized an auction (won by Kamaz) and purchased its own trucks to establish a city-run mini garbage collector.

As for garbage bins, Sanitek says their contract mandates them to provide 8,000 bins, and a conditional contract mandates 10,000 bins. Mayor earlier said 16,000 are needed, before ordering the city to purchase a few hundred bins at city's expense. Sanitek says a significant part of their bins are destroyed or burned, causing them a damage.

Sanitek is asking for city to change the contract. In return, they promise $4mln in new investments if some conditions are met.

Yerevan municipality's BHK representative was present at the conference, said the company still isn't serious and they didn't get satisfactory information.

Mayor Marutyan said Sanitek is simply not capable of doing their duties properly. Says city negotiated with them. He insisted that the contract requires Sanitek to install 16,000 metal garbage bins, but only 90 of them are made of metal.

A bomb exploded on the Yerevan-Sevan highway, causing a significant damage to the asphalt. No physical injuries. 2 cars were damaged. The passengers are believed to be the targets and are treated as victims.

The law enforcement is treating it as an attempted murder and illegal use of weapons and explosives. One of the damaged cars, which was the target, belongs to the former (BHK?) MP and controversial businessman Shshi Melo.

Melo's driver fled the scene with the car despite being told by the cops to stay. He was found and brought back later. The investigation revealed that the wannabe assassin planted a bomb on the road and detonated it when the target car was driving nearby.
