Law Enforcement

Update: famous actor Hovhannes Azoyan earlier said he was assaulted by a qyart during a gathering, for telling him not to disrespect women.

The police have found the suspect. He was questioned at a police station. A felony case is launched for hooliganism.

It took 1 day to find the man who is suspected of murdering a 16yo girl on Sunday at her rented apartment. A tablet was stolen from her. Video shows the man with arms twisted (I know some of you pervs enjoy these videos). The suspect is a young guy who works at the Defense Ministry.

Who owns lands in Dilijan National Park, how did they buy it, and how much they pay? Hetq outlet has a list. It isn't necessarily a report of a crime, it's just an ownership list, but in the past, the authorities busted corruption after such reports.

We are waiting...

Tourism

"Nederlands Dagblad: Hospitable Armenia now caters for tourists"

Dutch paper Dagblad had an article promoting tourism to Armenia. They mention the Christian heritage, monasteries, Mt. Ararat, the border with Turkey, Genocide (obviously), alphabet, etc.

Demographics & Border Villages

Update: IND MP Babajanyan earlier mentioned a new charity program by diasporans to help the residents of villages near the Azerbaijani border.

The program will give mothers $1,000 for the birth of each child, plus a total of $7,500 split into monthly installments for the duration of 3 years.

The program has launched. 7 pregnant women in Chinari village have already qualified. 200 women across multiple villages are currently on the list. Many of them weren't aware of the existence of this program.

The charity is negotiating with Vayots Dzor private firms, which are tasked with cooking food for soldiers, to hire the soldiers' family members in the kitchen.

Khachik settlement is negotiating with a poultry firm to open a facility there.

The names of the donors will be published later, says MP Babajanyan.

New Year's celebration

Here are Los Angeles Armenians celebrating the New Year with their families. WARNING: Lots of food ahead...

Drive Safe

January 1-4 (post-celebration) stats show a sharp reduction in traffic incidents in Yerevan:

2019: 56 incident, 5 death, 113 injured

2020: 27 incident, 2 deaths, 39 injured

An expert isn't entirely sure why but suspects the newly implemented point-based system may have played a role. Beginning in 2020, drivers lose their license after receiving 9 penalty points throughout the year.

Economy

Pashinyan wrote:

Remember when I went to Parliament and announced that we'll surpass Georgia this year, and Azerbaijan by 2020, with GDP per capita?

It turns out we surpassed both in 2019, according to IMF (International Monetary Fund).

IMF website shows Armenia $4.760, Azerbaijan $4.720, Georgia $4.630, Moldova $3.470.
