For many years I have wanted to create some online Armenian language lessons for free over the Internet. I have finally succeeded and think that this course is perfect for the Internet. It is of course best if you can have an Eastern Armenian speaker around to test out your pronunciation and look over your translation work. The lessons jump into Armenian pretty quickly, and you should progress quickly as well. They are divided by topic of learning, and are not in tiny little chapters like many language instruction books.

I would certainly appreciate any feedback you have on these lessons. There is an online dictionaries which will help in your studies, a simple one that has both Armenian-English and English-Armenian.

The book that these lessons were derived from was printed in the Soviet Union in 1970 by Luys Publishers. The authors were Markaryan, Asatryan, and Jagatspanyan. It was originally intended to teach Russian speakers Armenian and originally cost 87 kopeks.

Remember - reading any new language only gets easy with a lot of practice. The brain works in funny ways and begins to "recognize" words as a whole, making reading much faster. Here is a fun example in English:

Aoccdrnig to rsceearh at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit any porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Aazmnig!
