The Tchakedjians are originally from Aintab and settled in Cairo, Egypt after the genocide. They were the family that built the Cairo Armenian Evangelical Church (where I got married in 1980). The family was quite famous because of their business (selling the Swedish Primus equipment - gas lamps & burners)
But the more interesting story is that their original surname was Buchakdjian but as the family lore goes the patriarch Nerses changed it to Tchakedjian to shorten it.

His ancestors from Van were advisors to royalty, and the symbol of their sagacity was the long hair that they displayed. Thus they were referred to as talamazi, which, it is conjectured was a truncation of talarmazi, where talar, in Armenian, is deemed as verdant, and maz as hair. In many cultures long hair was a sign of nobility. The Parthians and Persiacs of high rank wore long flowing hair.

TUNGURIan (T) Nurhan Becidyan has very kindly offered the following information:
“If I am not mistaken the origin of this name is Tıngıryan (the jot without the tittle, or the undotted I in Turkish). It is the surname of a very prominent Armenian Catholic family whose members had been high Ottoman functionaries. One of them, Tıngır Yaver Pasha was the minister of Posts & Telegrams. They even had built two Armenian Catholic Churches in Istanbul, Sourp Hovhannes Mgrdich in Yeniköy, and Sourp Andon in Tarabya.
In Turkish, tıngır is used together with mıngır as tıngır mıngır to imitate the sound of rolling metal pieces. It also means money. My guess is that the family were originally sarrafs (bankers, money lenders) and the name might come from that.”
