Varderes Garukian

Varderes Garukian is a writer.

His penname was "Swallow" when he tried to pass his experience from Ottoman Turkey to the outer world in "The Fate of A Swallow: The Autobiography of Varderes Mikael Garukian".

The historiography is mainly about the village of Khulagyugh of Kharberd region where Varderes returned after the WW I to look for his family members. Here he was arrested and recruited to the Turkish army. Later on he flees to Racine from the country with few members of his family. The book consists of 335-page and includes maps and photos.

Marie (Garukian) Sahakian, Garukian's daughter, translated, edited and wrote the preface for the book. In November 2005 she also introduced and presented the "The Fate of A Swallow: The Autobiography of Varderes Mikael Garukian" to a huge auditorium in Racine (Wisconsin, USA).

The book was put out by "Komitas" publishing house.
