Shah Abbas was king of the Safavid dynasty from 1588 until 1629.
The Safavid empire was at ther best in the late 1500s under Shah Abbas he ended up to
be one of their best rulers. He created two armies that were loyal to only him they were
very loyal and made sure not to betray him . He also gave new weapons to the army to
make them better fighters. He got rid of corrupt officials in the government. He also
brought artists to his empire to make it look good. Shah Abbas took ideas from other
culture to combine and use in his. The main elements of that culture were the joining
together of the Persian tradition of learning and sophistication with the strong faith of the
Shia. And he used Chinese artists. Under the rule of Shah Abbas the Safavids enjoyed
good relations with nations of Europe. Shah Abbas reign, with its military successes it used
Iran to the status of a great power!!!
According to the Encyclopedia of World Biography:
“His power was more absolute than that of the sultan of Turkey. While the sultan was limited by the dictates of the Moslem religious laws as interpreted by the chief religious leader of the realm, the Shii Safavids were not so limited. Theirs was a theocracy in which the shah, as representative of the hidden imam, had absolute temporal and spiritual
powers. He was called the Morshed-e Kamel ("most perfect leader") and as such could
not do wrong. He was the arbiter of religious law. Later, when Persian kings became
artwork that decorated ther rebuilt capital of Esfahan”
He was the greatest ruler untill the empire finally died after Shah Abbas’ son took over.
He did the production and trade of silk and used the money to develop his capital,
Isfahan, into the most beautiful city of the age. Shah Abbas died in 1628 at the age of 70.
