Soba Shaboyan
Sona Shaboyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia. She attended the Tchaikovsky Music School as a child, studying piano with A. Baiburtyan. She began concertizing at an early age and attained a great deal of attention through her radio and television performances. In 1989, she won the national piano competition in Yerevan. After competing secondary school, she continued her piano studies at the national conservatory. From 1982 to 1993, she worked as a pianist for the eurythmie-stage at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. At the same time, she studied art history, speech formation and painting, After this she studied piano with James Avery and Michael Béroff at the Academie of Performing Arts in Freibourg, Germany from 1993 to 1999. She won fellowships from the Rosenburg Foundation of Germany, the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation of Portugal. She also attended master classes with Vitali Margulis, Ludmilla Ginzburg, András Schiff and John Perry. She was a member of Homero Francesch's solo calss at the Academy of Music in Zurich from 2001 to 2003. She currently obtains valuable musical support from Vitali Berson and Svetlana Navasardyan. Sona Shaboyan is in great demand a a soloist and has absolved many concerts with orchestras and chamber music partners. Numerous concerts have taken her to Germany, Belgium, Russia, Armenia, Spain, Switzerland and France.
