Sayad Zakhryan

Sayad Zakharyan was born on May 21, 1950 in the village of Orjonikidzeh in the Azerbaijan SSR region of Shamkhor.

Mr. Zakharyan graduated from Glinka Voronej State Agricultural University in 1991, in the Russian Federation. He is a mechanical engineer.

From 1969-1971 he served in the Soviet Army. He spent the next three years as a driver-policeman in the Akhuryan Division of the Interior. From 1974-1977 he worked as a driver in the Automobile Store #4 of the Akhuryan Hayjrshin Trust #2. From 1977-1979 he was a driver in the Akhuryan Haygyughtekhnica and from 1979-1984 in Haygyughchimia. In 1984 he worked as a storekeeper in the Akhuryan Sewing Factory. In 1985 he worked as a head of the styling unit in Akhuryan principal factory and in 1986 as chief controller. From 1986-1989 he headed the sewing shop of the village Voskehask. 1989-1993 he was the president of Artak-1 Cooperative Firm in the village of Oshakan in the Ashtarak region. In 1993 he worked as an assistant to the director in a trading center in Voronej. From 1993-1996 he was the deputy head of division in Vestos CJSC (Voronej) and from 2001-2003 he was the Executive Director of Argali Group Ltd. in Yerevan.

On May 25, 2003 he was elected to the NA from the proportional list of the Rule of Law Party. He currently serves on the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs and is a member of both the Rule of Law Faction and party.

Mr. Zakharyan is married and has two children.
