Recognition of Armenian Genocide by Argentina
Buenos Aires Includes Genocide in Curriculum BUENOS AIRES-As a result of the efforts of the Armenian National Committee of South America, the Buenos Aires City Council decided Tuesday to include the teaching of the Armenian Genocide in the general curriculum for its public schools.
The resolution cited that the Armenian Genocide was the first genocide of the 20th century and added that since education of human rights was part of the Buenos Aires Constitution as part of the general social studies curriculum, the Genocide should be incorporated into the program.
The resolution also cited decisions by the Argentine Parliament’s April 17, 1985 and the Senate June 19, 1985 urging the United Nations to work toward the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
