Lidya Aaghia Tchakerian was born in 1959 in Beirut capital of Lebanon.

For her all teenage and young life Lidya witnessed the brutal cold civil war that lasted from 1975 to 1990 in Lebanon which influenced the artist’s philosophy in life and art.

Lidya obtained her Masters degree of Fine Arts from ALBA (Academie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts) in 1988 Beirut, Lebanon. She received 1996-97 Scholarship and Grant in 1996-97 from French Cultural Center, Paris, France.

Lidya’s work reflects the influences from action painting, neo-expressionism and new expressionism artists as Jean-Michel Basquait, Arshile Gorky, Jackson Pollock, and Willem De Kooning.

Lidya is known for her multi-layer full color works that explore the conflicts of existence, history of war and culture, conscious and subconscious feelings of humanity. Lidya has been creating contemporary new expressionism art since 1986. Since then never lending herself to derisive exercises, but creating different dimensions, refusing to create sarcastic objects destined for bourgeois. For her the inequalities and the particularities of a condition cannot define its fundamental truth. To translate the profound equality of beings, she captures them in their uniqueness and universality. Blending drama and beauty through the ever deepening of a language in which only her subconscious varies. Creating a work in which life and painting blend in a perfect existential poem, creating dialog between the art and the audience.

She has lectured in higher education setting in several universities and collages. From 1989 until 2002 at ALBA (Academie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts), Beirut, Lebanon From 1989 until 2002, Academy Toros Roslyn “Hamazkaine“ Cultural Center, Beirut, Lebanon.
