Krasnodar is a city in Southern Russia on the Kuban River. It is the administrative center of Krasnodar Krai (also known as Kuban).

There are many Armenians living in the Krasnodar city and Kuban region. They are active participants in region's social and political life. "Yerkramas" (country) newspaper of Armenians of Russia closely monitors and covers all activities that are related to Armenians in the Kuban province.

On October 23 2005 an election was held to the Krasnodar town duma (City Council) of the fourth convocation. The election was declared valid in 41 out of 42 constituencies.

Vladimir Maranyan, the head physician of the town polyclinic N10 was among the winners of the election. His victory rated as sensational result. It was for the fist time during the post-soviet period when an Armenian has been a town parliament deputy.

Manaryan was not the favorite in the constituency, where the analysts foretold the victory of United Russia member, Director General of Yugenergo Managing Company Ltd. Georgy Sultanov. The community of Krasnodar anchored hopes with another compatriot, head of the Krasnodar central department of the Union of Armenians of Russia Gurgen Ivanyan. However G. Inavyan was the third only.

On August 27-28 2005 in Tuapse region of Krasnodar province, The Hamshen Armenians marked "And the Zurna of Hamshen Will Blow Again" celebration of the Armenian culture. The celebration was dedicated to the 1600 anniversary of the Armenian alphabet.

The celebration of culture opened in the village of Shahumian, which was an Armenian administrative center till 1956.

The "Hamshen" Armenian cultural organization of Tuapse also held workshops and concerts with the participation of best Armenian national ensembles of Kuban.

On April 24 2006 Armenians of Krasnodar gathered in the territory of the Armenian Surb Hovhannes Avetaranich (John the Evangelist) church to stand in memory of the Armenian Genocide victims of 1915-1923 in Turkey.

After the divine service, dedicated to this tragic data in the history of the Armenian people, a mourning demonstration took place on the square in front of the church. Representatives of the Armenian Diaspora of the city and the guests made speeches condemning the bloody crime committed in the Ottoman Turkey against the whole people, and called on the world community to contradict Turkey's entering the European community.

Citizens of Krasnodar gathered on the square were able to get acquainted with specially prepared stands on which photo facts irrefutably proving the Armenian Genocide conducted in Turkey were presented.
