Hrad Darakdjian, also known as Hrad Darian, passed away on May 10, 2021, in London, at age 82.
Hrad was born in Addis Ababa on December 19, 1938. He was the youngest child of Mardiros and Vartanoush (Pogharian) Darakdjian. He completed his high school education in Beirut, then attended Haigazian College, also in Beirut, before proceeding to the University of Massachusetts to study electrical engineering.
On returning to Addis Ababa, he worked at DARMAR, the family business. He was primarily involved in office administration. Following the nationalization of DARMAR in February 1975, he left Ethiopia and settled in London. He invested in real estate properties and managed them. He also owned and managed Tokyo Joe’s Club off Piccadilly until he sold it. He remained a bachelor.
