Henrik Malian is a renowned director.

On October 25 2005 there was a jubilee evening organized at the Yerevan "Moscow" cinema to commemorate Malian's 80th anniversary.

"Henrik Malian is 80 years old today but he hasn't been with us already for a long time. Henrik left numerous films and types which have become eternal companions of our people. Even today, from old years, his "Yerankyuni" (Triangle) is watched with the same interest, and the film heros became a legent and time," writer, dramatist Perch Zeytuntsian said at the meeting.

"It's difficult to forget Malian, especially as a film creator. He had still a lot to say. He created films for a clean and normal man, he was a great master of a humane cinematography," Ruben Gevorgiants, the Chairman of the Cinematographers' Union of Armenia said.

According to P.Zeytuntsian, Malian came to cinematography from theater but didn't bring with him anything from there, but an actor, man. It was the greatest pleasure for him to work with an actor as a result of what "the humane intonation grew into a type in Malain's films, and the intonation of "Yerankyuni" became a collective type of the nation what is a rare event in the cinematography." Henrik Malian carried out a historic revolution in the Armenian cinema: his hero was always a man and again a man.

Malian was the first who arose in the cinema the theme of the Armenian Genocide by a character: this was Gaspar of the film "Yerankyuni" with his "Gaspar's swimming."
