Hadi Makarechian is the Founder, Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President of Capital Pacific Holdings, Inc., a diversified real estate company headquartered in Newport Beach, California with operations California, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. He is Armenian born in Iran.

Hadi is a graduate of the State University of New York, UB (1972) with a BS in Civil Engineering and a BA in Economics. Following university, he returned to his native Iran and joined the family’s development and construction company which, at the time, was the country’s largest developer. Returning to the US during the late 70’s, Hadi established his real estate development business through various corporate entities, each of which he was Chairman and founder.

Hadi has been involved in the real estate industry as a master planner, builder, developer and long-term investor for more than 30 years and is recognized as an industry leader and innovator. He has been credited with revolutionizing the manner in which beachfront condominiums and hotels were constructed by strategically repositioning the structures to maximize the number of units with ocean views. An awe-inspiring view is only one facet of Hadi's overall vision of “building dreams.” He developed Oceanfront in Palos Verdes, California, as a result of which the term “Mc Mansions,” describing a tract of homes ranging from $3-6MM in price, has been added to standard building industry vocabulary. Oceanfront homes are fully equipped with furniture, dishes, linens, objects d’art, and a state-of-the-art IBM Home Center controlling everything from the temperature in the wine cellar, lights, the Jacuzzi, and the music selections on the home audio system, all of which can be controlled via the internet. The success of this project has been chronicled in Newsweek Magazine, The New Yorker, Forbes, CNN, CNBC, World News, Travel Channel, LA Times, and many other televised shows and international magazines.

Since 1975, the company has built and sold more than 27,000 homes and is also involved in many other large scale development and construction projects. CPH has been ranked as the 53rd largest builder of homes in the United States by Professional Builder Magazine and was voted “One of the Best Companies to Work For” by Professional Builders.

In addition to building dream homes, Hadi also serves as Chairman of the Board for Makar Properties, a diversified commercial, mixed use, and resort owner and developer with over $10 billion in projects under development.

Among the properties designed and developed by Makar is the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort & Spa. The resort is situated in Dana Point in Southern California on 200 acres of beachfront property, offering 400 guest rooms and 74 suites, most with view of the coastline and Pacific Ocean. The resort includes six dining venues and features Stonehill Tavern. Guests at the resort have full access to the 30,000 square food Spa Gaucin offering 25 treatment rooms, lap pool and state-of-the-art fitness facility. Additional, the resort offers two Olympic-sized swimming pools, Jacuzzis, tennis courts, an 18-hole championship oceanfront golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and walking trails that lead to a 6.1 acre beach and exclusive private beach club and restaurant. The resort was named one of the top 10 best new resorts in the world in the March 2003 issue of the Robb Report.

Included in the portfolio is Banning Lewis Ranch, a 21,000 acre master plan under development in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The project consists of a planned 70,000 new homes with over 60,000,000 square foot of planned commercial space. The Colorado Springs Airport adjoins the property and the city is home of the Air Force Academy, Norad, Fort Carson, and newly formed Homeland Security Department. The new community is expected to be home to over 250,000 people and will incorporate a land plan, monumentation, and amenities that will provide a level of quality to live, work, and play that has not been available in Colorado Springs.

Hadi's personal commitment to academic excellence has led to significant support to Chapman University, where he serves on the Board of Trustees; and State University of New York, UB, as a member of the SEAS Dean’s Council and its Delta Society. Hadi is the recipient of Chapman University’s 2002 Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award, UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Dean’s Award in 2003, and UB Alumni Foundation’s 2005 Celebration of Excellence Award.

In addition to improving education, Hadi also directs his efforts into improving communities. He has a long-standing interest in charitable causes and has been a generous supporter of many organizations contributing both personally and on behalf of Capital Pacific Holdings, Inc.

Hadi currently resides in Southern California with his wife, Barbara. Together they have two sons, Paul and Cyrus. Both sons are involved in various real estate projects through Makar Properties.
