Yerevan International Film Festival GOLDEN APRICOT was established in 2004 by the Golden Apricot Fund for Cinema Development, the Armenian Association of Film Critics and Cinema Journalists, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Armenia.

The Organizers of the Golden Apricot International Film Festival are: Harutiun Khachatryan, Film Director and Festival Director; Mikayel Stamboltsyan, Film Critic and Program Director; and Susanna Harutyunyan, Film Critic and Artistic Director.

Yerevan International Film Festival GOLDEN APRICOT will take place on 10 – 15 July, 2006 Yerevan, Armenia.

The main theme of the festival is Crossroads of Cultures and Civilizations. We invite directors and their films from around the world, borne of different cultures and a variety of aesthetics to convene in Yerevan, on the crossroads of yesterday's and today's cultures. The films will be presented in two international competition sections: features and documentaries produced in 2004-2006. One Grand Prize Golden Apricot and one Special Mention will be awarded in each category.

The festival has a special pan-Armenian competitive section Armenian Panorama for short, feature, documentary, and animation films produced in 2004-2006 by filmmakers of Armenian descent. Mark Sarkis Prix for Best Film in the Armenian Panorama and Golden Apricot for the Best Film in each category of the Armenian Panorama will be awarded.

The 3rd Yerevan International Film Festival will also feature the following sections: Yerevan Premieres offering the best recent art-house films, Retrospectives of the works of world famous directors, and other sections and events.

A weeklong international film festival that began in Yerevan on Sunday is presenting a total of 170 feature, short feature films and documentaries, with 65 of them included in the competition program.

Prizes at the ninth edition of the Golden Apricot will be in four sections – feature films, documentaries, short films (a category called Stone) and Armenian films (Armenian Panorama).
