Georgia Closes Armenian Schools
(RFE/RL) 6 January 2006 -- Georgia's financial police today said they have closed illegal Armenian high schools operating in the country's south.
Georgian media quote police officers as saying the schools were located in the predominantly ethnic Armenian region of Samtskhe-Javakheti.
They include branches of the Yerevan-based Law and Economics University and an examination center of the Movses Khorenatsi University, which is also headquartered in the Armenian capital.
Those schools were allegedly operating without a licence from the Georgian Education Ministry.

Georgian Financial Police Seals Armenian Universities' Branches In

Tbilisi. January 06 (Prime-News) - The Financial Police of Georgia sealed the branches of the Armenian universities operating illegally in Samtskhe-Javakheti region.
The Law and Economic University of Yerevan had its illegal branch in Akhalkalakhi, which was giving classes and certifying the students there.
A consultations office of the KhorenatsUniversity was operating in the region too. The office was sponsoring the exams and was sending the students in Yerevan.
Non of the branches of the Armenian universities had licenses by the Georgian Education Ministry, Prime-news was said by the representatives of the Financial Police.
The Financial Police is instituting proceedings on a charge of illegal business activities.
