GEORGE STAMBOULIAN (1937-1991) was a Armenian American literary pioneer. A key figure in the early gay literary movement that came out of New York during the 1960s and 70s. He later moved to California. He was a professor of French literature and the editor of the Men on Men anthology of gay literature.
The inspiration of the gay Armenian American character in Maybe the Moon, Stamboulian also explored his Armenian heritage in a short story entitled "In My Father's Car" in the third volume of Men on Men.
