Fedayis or Fedayees are Armenian Freedom Fighters, formed under the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF). Fedayis go back to the foundation of Armenia, Fedayi means "those who are prepared to fight", and the Fedayis of Armenia have always been prepared to fight for our freedom and cultural preservation. Throughout periods of Armenian history, Fedayis have been resisting foreign powers and powerful empires like the Parthians, Assyrians, Persians & Safavids, Ottomans, Byzantines & Greenks, and the Russians. Fedayis have been active on and off time to time, but major reappearances of Fedayis numbering over 50,000, surged during the period of World War I and the Armenian Genocide. Also another major reapearance of Fedayis have surfaced in Karabakh and the Nagorno-Karabagh War. The slogan of the Fedayis are "Azadoutian Gam MAH!", which translated into English means "Freedom or DEATH!". Fedayis have been important to Armenians and Armenia, they have made it possible for Armenians to live another day, for Armenia to preserve its unique and distinct identity, and for Armenia to be forever independent & free. Countless Fedayis have sacrificed their lives for this cause, and for Armenians. A famous Fedayi singer is Harout Pamboujkian, that sings about Armenian Fedayis in his song "Hye Kacher".
