Barkev Mekhitarian

On June 07, 2005, around 8 p.m. PST, Barkev Mekhitarian died, after a long battle with pneumonia and congestive heart failure. We estimate that he was 100 years old. He was a survivor of the Armenian genocide, in which 1.5 million people were murdered at the hands of the Turks. His real birthdate is unknown.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Mekhitarian, six children, and ten grandchildren: Alice and Jean Kiljian, Jenny and Nerses Kiljian; Vosgan and Fimi Mekhitarian, and their sons Vosgan and Raffi; Haroutiune Mekhitarian; Marie-Jean and Sahag Minassian, and their daughter Caroline; Kevork and Elizabeth Mekhitarian, their son Barkev, and daughters Ojeanne and Christine; Sarkis and Sally Mekhitarian, their son Kevin and daughter Erin Marie. He is predeceased by a daughter, Ojeanne Mekhitarian; and a grandson, Barkev Minassian.
