Ashot Galoyan

Ashot Galoyan is an Armenian diplomat and scientist.

On December 24 2005, by then RA President Robert Kocharian's decree, Ashot Galoyan was appointed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Republic of Poland (residence in Warsaw). He replaced Ashot Hovakimian who was discharged from commissions in Poland and appointed the RA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Austria (residence in Vienna).

armradio.am (20.10.2011) According to President Serzh Sargsyan's decree, Ashot Galoyan was relieved of the duties of Armenia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Poland.


Ashot Galoyan was born in Vanadzor in 1956.

He graduated from the History Department of the Yerevan State University, then the post graduate studentship, is a candidate of Historic Sciences.

In 1979-1982, he worked as the Assistant to the Rector of the Yerevan State University,

In 1982-1985, was the ALCYU Committee Secretary,

In 1985-1988, was the History Department lecturer of the Yerevan State University.

In 1987-1988, he was a scholar and lecturer on the US International Researches and Exchange (IREX) program at the Michigan and California Universities; in 1993-1995, he was a lecturer on the "Fullbright" fund program at the Political Sciences Department of the US California University ofLos Angeles (UCLA); in 1995-1997, a professor of the History and Political Sciences Departments of the California University of Los Angeles (UCLA).

In 1997, he delivered lectures as a senior lecturer at the Political Sciences Department of the American University of Armenia. He has been an assistant professor of the Yerevan State University, a professor of the Yerevan H.Acharian University since 1989.

In 1999-2003 he was a RA NA Deputy, a member of the Committee on Foreign Relations. He has been a member of the Armenian delegation to the Council of Europe since 2001.

Galoyan has been the Advisor to the RA Foreign Minister, the head of the RA delegation to the GRECO since 2003.

He published 30 articles, reviews as well as an educational guide dedicated to Caucasus' history of 19-20th centuries.

Galoyan is fluent in Armenian, Russian and English.

He is married, has three sons.
