Antoine Terjanian is an active member of the Armenian Cultural Association of Ottawa. He served as the Association’s President in 1972, as Treasurer between 1996 and 2002 and as a volunteer folklore teacher for several years. For years, he organised the Community’s participation in the Canada Day (July 1st) celebrations, where he set-up and managed the backgammon and chess tournaments, obtained 'Registered Charity' status for the Association and created the Armenian-community-TV program in 1982. He also organised Armenian folkloric music and dance workshops and shows, as well as outdoors camps and celebrations in many communities as far away as the Sudan and Ethiopia. On the professional level, Mr. Terjanian gathered a wide breadth of experience from his career in the Canadian government in the fields of geomatics, statistics, economics, information systems, etc. His world-wide experience has been enhanced by his fluency in numerous languages.

A pioneer in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Antoine started his career at Statistics Canada where he led a multidisciplinary team to complete, in 1973, the first ‘National Statistical GIS’. At the Canadian Census of Agriculture, he developed the first computer-generated colour atlas for Canada’s agriculture. He subsequently established the feasibility of generating computerised thematic maps using TELIDON, and developed a resource allocation model for Africa for the Department of Foreign Affairs.

From 1985 until 1991, Antoine was posted to Africa as a Senior Regional Officer for the International Development Research Centre. During this period, he built partnerships, networks, and training opportunities with colleagues in both Africa and the Middle East; his work resulted in projects and funding for information systems in the 28 different countries for which he had responsibility.

From 1992 to 1998, Antoine was Manager, Business Development for Europe and the Middle East in Canada’s Department of Natural Resources. There he supported and promoted the export of Canadian Geomatics technologies and related business interests in Europe and the Middle East. He was then Director for International Business Development at one of the largest IT consulting companies (DMR). He went to Armenia in 2002 to volunteer with the Armenian Volunteer Corps for one year. He became an independent consultant after that with contracts in Africa for World Bank geomatics projects and in Statistics for UNFPA in NY. He is doing first hand development work in Armenia since then and lives part of the year on top of the mountain,in Yeghegnadzor, Armenia.

Antoine's academic credentials include post-graduate degrees in Agricultural Engineering and in Rural Economics, and post-graduate lecturing on Mega-information databases in the Department of Demography, Université de Montréal, as well as several specialised courses in informatics, management and international negotiations.

Antoine is fluent in French, English, Italian, Armenian, Arabic and Russian, and can also converse in Spanish, Turkish and German.
