Haygas Boyadjian October 13, 1996 HaygasBoyadjian of Newington died Saturday at New Britain General Hospital. He was 86. Mr. Boyadjian was born in Turkey and lived in the former Soviet Union before moving to Newington 27 years ago. He was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church in New Britain. Mr. Boyadjian was employed by the Nutmegger House Restaurant and was a self-employed tailor. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. He is survived by a daughter, Knarig Semerdjian of Newington.


GRAY, Satanik January 13, 2010 GRAY, Satanik Satanik "Nikki" Gray, 93, died peacefully at The Reservoir in West Hartford on January 12, 2010. She was born on February 21, 1916 in Worcester, MA, the fourth child of the late Agavney (Yeranian) and Bedros Boyajian. Her family moved to Hartford and later purchased a farm in Hampton. Nikki had many fond memories of her life there, playing with her siblings and assisting her mother with chores. Her father worked in Hartford and commuted home on weekends. She formed lasting friendships with neighbors in the community and years later took her children to visit, annually.

Lusin Terdjanian May 26, 1998 Lusin Terdjanian of New Britain died Saturday at the UConn Health Center in Farmington. She was 71. Mrs. Terdjanian lived in Armenia fo 20 years and was a resident of New Britain since 1988. She attended St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church. She leaves her husband, Minas Terdjanian; two daughters, Juliet Terdjanian and Silva Terdjanian, both of New Britain; two brothers, a sister; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church. NEWS VARJABEDIAN, Anthony V. December 6, 2009 VARJABEDIAN, Anthony V. Anthony V. Varjabedian, 57, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, (December 4, 2009) at his home. He was loved by all who knew him. His gentile manner and smile were characteristic of his nature. In his years he overcame many physical and other disabilities, those challanges never stopped his independence and from being a productive member of society. He worked as a warewasher at the Holiday Inn before it became The Crown Hotel in Hartford, for nearly twenty years. NEWS Sarkis Esoian, 73 May 9, 1998 Sarkis Esoian of Stafford Avenue, Bristol, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, died Thursday at Bristol Hospital. He was 73. He was born in Hartford and was a longtime Bristol resident. He was formerly employed by the First National food store and later worked for Bristol Savings Bank until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Esoian was a member of St. Stephen Armenian Apostolic Church, New Britain, and served as chairman of the board for many years. He was also a past president of the West End Athletic Club in Bristol. NEWS Bagdigian, John Andrew "Andy" January 7, 2000 BAGDIGIAN, John Andrew "Andy" John Andrew "Andy" Bagdigian, 90, formerly of Avon, died Wednesday, (January 5, 2000) at Hartford Hospital. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Bagdasar and Kayane Der (Mardirossian) Bagdigian. Andy was the husband of the late Blanche (Perkins) Bagdigian. He was a member of St. George Armenian Apostolic Church and was a foreman with Pratt & Whitney for 40 years, retiring in 1978. He was well thought of and regarded by those who worked with him and for him. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and devoted to his family. NEWS Jacobs, Sadie March 19, 2003 JACOBS, Sadie Sadie Jacobs 80, of New Britain, wife of Edward S. Jacobs, died Monday, (March 17, 2003) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Markar and Akabi (Matesian) Marzbanian. Sadie was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church, the Ladies Guild at church, and the Armenian Red Cross. In addition to her husband Edward, she is survived by a son, Edward R. Jacobs and his wife Cheryl of Windham, NH; a daughter, Darlene Evslin of West Hartford; three grandchildren, Jarah Evslin, Kim Almasian and her husband Joe, and Randy Hagopian; two great-grandchildren, Armen and Meline; and many nieces and nephews. NEWS Takoohi Sarkissian September 17, 1996 Takoohi "Queenie" Matyousian Sarkissian, formerly of Oak Street in New Britain, died Monday at a local convalescent home. She was 96. Born in Zeytun, ancient Armenia, she was a survivor of the Armenian genocide. She was helped by the American missionaries in Turkey, where she was taken into an orphanage as a cook. Later in life, she prepared meals for the Armenian congregation at the First Church of Christ where she had been a member. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. Stephens Armenian Apostolic Church, where she also prepared meals. NEWS Faulkner, Anna T. December 27, 2003 FAULKNER, Anna T. Anna Thomassian Faulkner, 64, of Windsor, died Monday, (December 22, 2003) at St. Francis Hospital. Born in France, she was the daughter of Bedros and Aghavni (Moussikian) Thomassian. She was a resident of Windsor for the past 32 years and attended St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church in New Britain. Surviving are her beloved husband, Arthur B. Faulkner Sr.; a son, Arthur B. Faulkner Jr. and his wife Beverly; a daughter, Tanya A. Faulkner, all of Windsor; a sister, Marie Sarkissian of France; two grandchildren, Jordan Grasso and Favian Faulkner; and many nephews and nieces. NEWS ALEXANIAN, Lucy L. November 25, 2009 ALEXANIAN, Lucy L. Lucy L. Alexanian, 91, of East Hartford, passed away Monday, (November 23, 2009) after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Oscar Alexanian. Born in New Britain on July 24, 1918, she was the daughter of Avides and Alma (Ashmudurian) Mooshegian. She was a Newington resident for 35 years before moving to East Hartford in 1982. She was employed by Travelers Insurance Co. for ten years and was a long time parishioner at the St. George Armenian Apostolic Church in Hartford. NEWS KOSEIAN, Shakea D. November 5, 2009 KOSEIAN, Shakea D. Shakea D. "Charlotte" Koseian, 85, a longtime resident of Enfield, passed away on Tuesday (November 3, 2009) at Blair Manor. She was born on March 2, 1924 in Hartford, CT, and became a resident of Enfield in 1962. Prior to her retirement, she worked at the former G. Fox & CO. in Enfield, earning several sales awards. She also worked the polls on election days in Enfield. Shakea was a member of St. George Armenian Apostolic Church in Hartford. She is survived by her son, Stephan H. Koseian of Enfield; and her daughter, Mary L. Koseian of Newington. NEWS SARGISIAN, Vartoush ``Rose November 4, 2009 SARGISIAN, Vartoush "Rose" Vartoush "Rose" Sargisian, 84, of West Hartford, died peacefully on Tuesday, (November 3rd), surrounded by her family after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was predeceased by Suren, her husband of over 50 years of marriage. Rose is survived by her son, Robert Sargisian and his wife Marjorie of Granby; her daughter, Ann Abramson and her husband, Andy of Canton; and her son George of New York City. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alex of West Hartford and Tania of Orlando, FL; and her great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Emily, and Maggie. NEWS SIROONIAN, Paula M. Conn Medical Center in Farmington, surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born in Worcester, MA, on February 8, 1954, and lived in Farmington for the past 18 years. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 29 years, Geary and their children, 20-year old twins Nicole Lee at Wake Forest University, Christopher Anthony at Champlain College, and 18-year old Deanna Kristine at James Madison University. NEWS BOORNAZIAN, Charles Leslie July 30, 2009 BOORNAZIAN, Charles Leslie Charles Leslie Boornazian of 100 Executive Square House, Wethersfield, CT died on Monday, (July 27, 2009) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford, he was raised in West Hartford and spent most of his life in the Hartford area. Prior to his kidney failure in 1991, he worked in his family's wholesale produce business and held other positions within that same industry...mostly at the Hartford Regional Market. A member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church in New Britain, he was a veteran of the United States Navy and served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. NEWS Great Things To Do May 10, 2009 BERLIN NEWS Goshdigian, Jack, Sr. August 11, 2000 GOSHDIGIAN, Jack, Sr. Jack Goshdigian, Sr., 98, of West Hartford, husband of the late Victoria (Garabedian) Goshdigian, died Wednesday, (August 9, 2000) at Hughes Convalescent Home. Born in Armenia, son of the late Nishan and Anna (Kallajian) Goshdigian, he was a mechanical inspector with the Underwood Corporation, retiring in 1972. Mr. Goshdigian was a member of St. George Armenian Apostolic Church in Hartford and a member of Wyllys-St. Johns No. 4 A.F. & A.M. in West Hartford.

ANTREASSIAN, Seran May 8, 2008 ANTREASSIAN, Seran Seran Antreassian of West Hartford, widow of Harry Antreassian, died Wednesday (May 7, 2008). Born in Kharpet, Armenia, she was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide. She was a devoted member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church and an active member of the church choir. She was also a member of the Armenian Relief Society. She is survived by two brothers, Zaven Der Aprahamian and his wife, Helena, and Haig Der Aprahamian, and his wife, Janet; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Sarkisian. Alice Sarkisian January 16, 1996 SARKISIAN. Alice Sarkisian, 79, formerly of Sisson Ave., Hartford, died Monday (Jan. 15, 1996). She was the widow of Abraham Sarkisian. Born in Iran, she was the daughter of the late Stepan and Blandina Stepanian. She was a Hartford resident most of her life. She was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church, New Britain, and the Armenian Relief Society. Surviving are a sister, Yester Pishtofjian of Watertown, MA; and three nephews and their families, Jirair Pishtofjian of Peabody, MA, Norair Pishtofjian of Watertown, MA, and Hrair Pishtofjian of Zurich, Switzerland. NEWS Mae Demetriou November 2, 1998 Mae Sarkessian Demetriou of New Britain, wife of Evangelo Demetriou, has died. Mrs. Demetriou lived her entire life in New Britain, where she was co-owner of the Idle-Hour Beauty Salon. She was a trustee of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church and a member of its ladies guild, a member of the Armenian Relief Society and a staunch supporter of the Armenian Youth Federation. She leaves many family members. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church. NEWS E. Wojculewicz March 16, 1999 Elizabeth Eknoian Wojculewicz of New Britain died Saturday at New Britain General Hospital. She was born in New Britain and was employed at Fafnir Bearing Co. for many years as an inspector. She also worked part time at United Bakery. Mrs. Wojculewicz was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church. She is survived by her husband, Walter Wojculewicz; a sister, Theresa Khazarian of Stratford; two nieces and two nephews. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain, to St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church at 11. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. NEWS Zavin Kaloustian December 24, 1994 Zavin A. Kaloustian, a retired compositor for The Courant, died Tuesday at his son's home in Pleasanton, Calif. He was 66. He was hired by The Courant in 1969 and worked for many years in the newspaper's composing room. He retired in 1994. Mr. Kaloustian was born in Beirut, Lebanon. He immigrated to the United States in 1969. He was a member of St. Stephen Armenian Apostolic Church, New Britain. Mr. Kaloustian leaves his wife, Virginia Kaloustian of Newington; five children, Taline Monus, Aram Kaloustian, Kevork Kaloustian, and Ani Aghazarian, all in California, and Tarinee Krekel of Phoenix; and four grandchildren. He was born in Bucharest, Romania on December 26, 1921 and married Monique Paklajian in 1954. In 1965, he emigrated to the United States with his wife and parents Ardashes and Efkine Zakarian and worked at the Sage-Allen department store in Hartford until his retirement in 1985. He is survived by his cousins, Nectar Babaeghian Walen, her husband, Thomas Walen, their daughter, Alexandra, Sylvia Devletian of Los Angeles, CA, and Aram Babaeghian of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Born in Konia, Turkey, she was the daughter of the late Ohaness and Gulua Zobuian. She was a former Hartford resident before moving to West Hartford. Florica was formerly employed at Avery Heights and was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church in New Britain. In addition to her husband Jarair Ghevontian, she is survived by her niece and nephew, Bedros and Silvia Glorighian.

Shelefian. Takouhi V. Shelefian November 30, 1997 SHELEFIAN. Takouhi V. Shelefian, 74, of West Hartford, died Wednesday (Nov. 26, 1997) at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center. Born in Bucharest, Romania, living in the West Hartford area for 31 years. She was employed by the Orion Group, Inc., Farmington, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church, New Britain, and the church choir. She is survived by a sister, Armenia, and her husband, Hrant Babaeghian of West Hartford; a niece, Nectar A. Babaeghian Walen and her husband, Tom Walen, of Hampden, MA. Funeral procession will leave Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 S. Main St., West Hartford, Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church, 167 Tremont St., New Britain, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

Babaeghian, Hrant K. April 17, 2005 BABAEGHIAN, Hrant K. Hrant K. Babaeghian, 97, of Red Top Drive in West Hartford, passed away on Saturday (April 16, 2005). He was born in Armenia (May 1, 1907), grew up in Romania where he owned a food import/export business and married Armenia Shelefian. In 1963, he emigrated with his wife and daughter to the U.S. where he worked for Bakmazian & Son and retired at age 72. He is survived by his wife, Armenia; daughter, Nectar; son-in-law, Thomas Walen; and granddaughter, Alexandra. NEWS Khuzkian. Rose (thomassian) Khuzkian July 23, 1994 KHUZKIAN. Rose (Thomassian) Khuzkian, 65, of Hartford, wife of Guy Khuzkian, died Thursday (July 21) at her home. She was born in Gardanne, France, and lived in Hartford for the past 35 years. Before her retirement, she had been employed by Greenwood Health Care Center for 12 years, and was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church, New Britain. Besides her husband, Mrs. Khuzkian is survived by her sons, Frederic Khuzkian of North Carolina, and Serge Khuzkian of Hartford; her daughters, Monique Giapoutzian of Laval, Canada, and Josiane Tatossian of Montreal, Canada; a brother, Paul Thomassian of Marlborough; her sisters, Anna Faulkner of Windsor, and Marie Sarkissian of Vienne, France; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Born onn June 29, 1930 in Worcester, MA, a resident of Florida for 14 years coming from New Britain. A loving wife mother and homemaker for her family, she was a member of St. Stephens Armenian Apostolic Church. Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Armen S. Jacobs, two daughters, Melanie (Scott) Roberts, Sandra Jacobs, two sons, Armen G. and Mark; a sister, Arpi Emirzian and a brother, Matthew Emirzian; and grandson, Kyle Gabree. NEWS Kaloustian. He was formerly employed by Maytag Modern Way, Hartford and later owned and operated Charles Appliance Co. for 30 years before his retirement eight years ago. Charles was a past trustee on the board at St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church and was member and past commander of the VFW Hannon Hatch Post #9929, West Hartford. NEWS Wolf, A. Peggy November 29, 2003 WOLF, A. Peggy A. Peggy Wolf, of Ambler, PA, formerly of New Britain, died Friday, (November 28, 2003) in Ambler. She was the widow of Harold Wolf, who died in June 1983. Born in Yonkers, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Edgarian). Peggy was a former Hartford resident and a long-time New Britain resident before moving to Pennsylvania in 2002. She was a graduate of New Britain High School and was formerly employed at Berlin Steel Construction Co. She was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church. NEWS Najarian. Frank Oscar Najarian July 21, 1995 NAJARIAN. Frank Oscar Najarian, 82, of Berlin, died Wednesday (July 19, 1995) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., April 8, 1913, he graduated from Hartford High School in 1931. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Italy. He was employed by the Hartford Post Office, as secretary to the Postmaster for 30 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church, New Britain. He was a 32nd degree Mason at the Centennial Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Tufankjian)

Wojculewicz, Elizabeth (eknoian) March 16, 1999 WOJCULEWICZ, Elizabeth (Eknoian) Elizabeth (Eknoian) Wojculewicz, of New Britain, died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Gaspar and Almas (Tondourjian) Eknoian. Elizabeth worked at the Fafnir Bearing Co. for many years as an inspector. She also worked part time for many years at the United Bakery. She was a dedicated and active member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church where she was also a member of the Ladies Guild.

She was the widow of Peter Badrigian. Born in Kharpurt, Armenia, she was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide and was a New Britain resident since 1944. She was a devoted member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church and the Ladies Guild at church. Surviving are two daughters, Marge Robinson and her husband, Robert of New Britain, and Mary Boynton of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Judith Badrigian; a son-in-law, Charles Alex; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. NEWS Bouley, Rose (boyajian) June 12, 2004 BOULEY, Rose (Boyajian) Rose (Boyajian) Bouley, 87, formerly of New Britain, died Thursday, (June 10, 2004) at New Britain General Hospital. She was the widow of Leonard Bouley who died in 1983. Born August 6, 1916 in Stoneham, MA, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Tufenkjian) Boyajian. She was a long-time New Britain resident before moving to Farmington one year ago. Rose joined the American Hardware Employees Federal Credit Union in 1948 and was elected Treasurer in 1958. Born in Iran, the son of Vartan and Taman Sargisian, he moved to the Hartford area in 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of the Connecticut Guard for a short period after the war. Mr. Sargisian worked as a machinist for a number of local companies, retiring in 1989. He was an active member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church in New Britain, serving on the Board of Trustees, and was a member of the Masons.

Mesrob Semerjian of Hartford, a retired priest who served 60 years with the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church of America, died Saturday at the Mediplex nursing facility in Wethersfield. He was 85. Semerjian served as a parish priest throughout New England including St. George's Armenian Church in Hartford and the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection in New Britain. Semerjian was born in Syria. In 1935, he entered St. James Armenian Theological Seminary in Jerusalem, completing his studies with highest honors.

He was awarded a scholarship from Yale University where he majored in English. He received a Bachelor's degree from Yale in 1956, and continued his studies at the Yale Graduate School. As a result of the Turkish Massacre, Margaret fled Kharpet with her paternal grandmother, Almas Baronian to Aleppo, Syria and later come to the United States thru Ellis Island in 1920.

NEWS JOHNSON, Nellie ``Nell September 23, 2008 JOHNSON, Nellie "Nell" (Kallajian) Nellie "Nell" (Kallajian) Johnson, 93, of Glastonbury and formerly of Manchester and Hartford, beloved wife of the late Edward J. Johnson, died Monday (September 22, 2008) at the Glastonbury Healthcare Center. She was born June 28, 1915 in Hartford, daughter of the late Harry & Veronica Kallajian, she attended Hartford schools and was a 1932 Graduate of Hartford Public High School. She worked as a secretary for the Hartford Board of Ed. for several years and during World War II she worked for Underwood Typewriter of Hartford. NEWS KAZARIAN, Robert May 23, 2008 KAZARIAN, Robert Robert Kazarian, 86, of Storrs, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday (May 21, 2008). He was born October 25, 1921 in Hartford, the son of Lazarus and Anna (Bandoian) Kazarian. He was raised in Hartford and was a 1939 graduate of Bulkeley High School. In 1951 he graduated from Springfield College, Springfield, MA. As a World War II Army veteran, he served in Europe as a combat officer with the 103rd Division, 7th Army and was discharged in May of 1946 as a 1st Lieutenant.

CALOUSTIAN, Marie ``Mary March 23, 2008 CALOUSTIAN, Marie "Mary" Marie "Mary" Caloustian, 81, of Bayside, NY, beloved wife of the late Arshag Caloustian, passed away on Friday, (March 21, 2008) at Evergreen Health Care Center, Stafford Springs. She was born in Egypt, daughter of the late Elias and Sirpouhi (Tchiboukchian) Agzarian. She was a member of the Armenian Church of the Holy Martyrs in Bayside, NY. Mary is survived by her two daughters, Marie-Louise Caloustian of Bayside, NY, and Gabrielle Frigon and her husband, Raymond, Jr. of Union; a granddaughter, Camille; and many nieces and nephews. NEWS Kevorkian, Girard O. ``gerry March 11, 2008 KEVORKIAN, Girard O. "Gerry" Girard O. "Gerry" Kevorkian, 86, passed away quietly on Wednesday, (March 5, 2008) after a sudden illness. Born, November 25, 1921 in Hartford to the late Kevork and Verjin, he enjoyed a full and active life. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp as a decorated B-17 Pilot with 35 missions over Europe. Upon returning, he married Annette Tajarian of Worcester, MA in 1948. Gerry touched many lives through church, community organizations and hobbies. NEWS Krauth Joyce Margaret (bodozian) February 1, 2008 KRAUTH Joyce Margaret (Bodozian) Joyce Margaret Bodozian Krauth, 71, of East Hampton, wife of William E. Krauth, passed away suddenly on Tuesday (January 29, 2008). She was born on June 24, 1936 in Hartford to the late Dertad and Youghaper Bodozian, of Gamis in Sepastia in Historic Armenia, both survivors of the Armenian genocide. She was predeceased by her brother Harry Bodozian. Besides her husband of 51 years, she leaves her three daughters, Jill and Daniel Deane, Judy Krauth, and Janice and Ronald Catrone all of Portland; her sister Isabelle Starr, her niece JoAnn Sherestanian and her grandnephews Matthew and Adam Dluglenski. NEWS Baboian, Charles J. December 13, 2007 BABOIAN, Charles J. Charles J. Baboian, 82, of Newington, went home to the Lord on Wednesday (December 12, 2007). Charlie was born on July 6, 1925, in Hartford and lived in Newington for the last 31 years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was still active in the DAV and American Legion. Charlie was a 51 year member of the ancient free and accepted Masons. He also served on the parish counsel at St. George Armenian Church in Hartford. Educated at the Morse School of Business, he worked as an Accountant for many years. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St. and at 11 a.m. at the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mazadoorian, Elizabeth Yegsa (aharonian) May 1, 2007 MAZADOORIAN, Elizabeth Yegsa (Aharonian) Elizabeth Yegsa (Aharonian) Mazadoorian died Sunday (April 29, 2007) at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at the age of 94. She was a resident of New Britain for more than 75 years. She was born in the village of Yegheki in the province of Kharpert to Lucig (Der Bagdasarian) Aharonian and Harootiun (Dado) Aharonian in 1912. While she was an infant her father Dado came to the United States to earn money for the family. During that time, the Genocide began when Yegsa was three years old. She personally witnessed the most barbaric treatment of fellow Armenians and actually started out with her mother and two uncles in the horrible death marches in which her mother and uncles were put to death.

Goshdigian, Violet (vakel) February 7, 2007 GOSHDIGIAN, Violet (Vakel) Violet (Vakel) Goshdigian, beloved wife of the late John Goshdigian, died (February 6, 2007) at the Hebrew Health Care in West Hartford, at the age of 90. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on August 18th, 1916. Her parents, Jacob Vakel and Lucy (Atlas) Vakel, emigrated to the United States from Armenia early in the century. Violet's mother had been orphaned at a young age when her parents were victims of the first Turkish massacre in the late 19th century. NEWS Vartanian, Elizabeth A. December 17, 2006 VARTANIAN, Elizabeth A. Elizabeth A. Vartanian, 84, of Kensington, died peacefully on Friday, (December 15, 2006) at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Sarkis and Seranoosh (Kaprielian) Azarigian. She lived in New Britain before moving to Kensington in 1969. Elizabeth was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1940 where she was a member of the National Honor Society, and was also a graduate of Moody Secretarial School. NEWS Boyajian, Helen D. (nedwell) November 25, 2006 BOYAJIAN, Helen D. (Nedwell) Helen D. (Nedwell) Boyajian, 76, of Burlington, died Wednesday, (November 22, 2006) at home. She was the widow of John Boyajian who died in 1976. Born in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late John and Theresa Zbikowski Bear. Helen was a long time New Britain resident before moving to Burlington in 1981. She was formerly employed at the McLean Home in Simsbury, the Marriott in Farmington, Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington and the Hotel Burritt in New Britain before retiring. NEWS Davidian, Rose November 14, 2006 DAVIDIAN, Rose Rose Davidian, 89, of Farmington, entered into eternal peace Saturday, (Nov. 11, 2006). She was the widow of Edward Davidian. Surviving are a brother, Harry Azarigian of New Britain; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11a.m. at the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. NEWS Ohanesian, Maritza ``mary (deroian) Bogosian November 13, 2006 OHANESIAN, Maritza "Mary" (Deroian) Bogosian Maritza "Mary" (Deroian) Bogosian Ohanesian, 101, of New Britain, died peacefully Sunday, (November 12, 2006) at home. Born March 15,1905 in the village of Hussenig in Armenia. She was the daughter of the late Harutune and Shushan Deroian. She was the oldest of five children. She was the only survivor in her family from the Armenian Genocide in 1915 by the Turkish Government. She was reunited with her uncle in Hartford at the age of 14. In 1924 she married John Bogosian of New Britain. NEWS Yagoobian, Elizabeth (der Hoosigian) November 8, 2006 YAGOOBIAN, Elizabeth (Der Hoosigian) Elizabeth (Der Hoosigian) Yagoobian, 98, of New Britain, died Sunday night at home after a short illness. Born in Providence, RI in 1908, her parents, she and her brother Nerses returned to Armenia. She and her brother were orphaned due to the Genocide by the Turks of the Christian Armenians in 1915. She spent her formative years in an orphanage until the age of 15. Relatives located her and sent for her return to America and she lived in Lowell, MA where she met and married her husband Paul (now deceased)
