Raffi, if this is too intrusive, just holler and I'll lay off! I made no substance changes, just editorial changes, tightening the prose, and substituting the commoner or correct architectural terms where possible.
In particular, "nave" refers to the main aisle of a building; a hall or church with several aisles, only the central aisle is the nave, the others are "side aisles", "lateral aisles", or under certain circumstances (not here) "deambulatories".
I used keeptogether spaces for the measurements, and periods rather than commas in accordance with English rather than European usage.
"Whole water-pool" is still unclear, so much so that I couldn't correct it to something better. Bill Thayer 09:24, 15 Jan 2005 (PST)
