Blessed Are the Righteous

Dear Editor:
Recently I received the following communication from an Armenian-American resident of New Jersey, and would like to pass it on to readers of the Armenian Reporter International.
“Six months ago, I received an acknowledgment from Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), assuring me that he supported Sec. 907 that places restrictions on U.S. aid to Azerbaijan so long as the country continues its blockade of Armenia and Karabagh. Now I learn that Sen. Lautenberg voted to repeal Sec. 907 which would have effectively removed any possibility of resolving the conflict between Azerbaijan and Karabagh.
“It baffles me that Lautenberg, who is Jewish, and certainly aware of the genocide of the Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Turks, would be so callous in his disregard of the perilous position of the Armenians of the Caucasus. I have written to him to inquire as to the rationale for his flip-flop on the issue, although I can’t think of any excuse that can be considered satisfactory.
“The Jews have their Righteous Gentiles. Perhaps the time has come for Gentiles to designate Righteous Jews, of which Lautenberg is not likely to be one.”
