The first Armenian American on the Glendale City Council. Zarian, who served on the council from 1983 to 1993, was invited to Armenia for an official state visit after becoming the first Armenian American mayor of the third largest city in Los Angeles County. In 2006, Zarian was appointed to the California Transportation Commission.
