This juniper used to be widely spread in Armenia, but he natural habitat is now rapidly decreasing.

Met in the floristic regions of Ijevan, Aparan, Sevan, Yerevan, Dareleghis, Zangezur, and Meghri.

Habitat and ecology

Grows in dry, rocky hills.

Biology and potential value

Natural reproduction is not satisfactory. Grows very slowly, lives up to 500 – 600 years. Has huge timber value. Medicinal Plant.

Measures of protection

Strict protection is required. Included in the Red Book of the Soviet Union.
