In the small village of Veras (new Turkish name Kayas*, former Armenian name Aparank), in a remote corner of Bitlis province, the Monastery of the Holy Cross of Aparank was founded in the 9th century. The village also has a parochial church, an older simpler monastery and a fountain (spring?) monument.
